The USA plans to play a minimal role in providing security guarantees to Ukraine
This is written by Politico. According to journalists, representatives from the USA, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Finland held a meeting dedicated to this issue. During the negotiations, the partners requested disclosure of information regarding which troops and resources the USA is willing to provide Ukraine to support a peace agreement with Russia.
However, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense Elbridge Colby informed European allies that the United States is unlikely to send significant land or air resources to defend Ukraine.
His response caused concern among allies given the contradictory statements of President Trump, who initially hinted at the possibility of deploying troops, then indicated readiness to provide only air cover.
«It is becoming clear that Europe itself will carry this out on the ground», – stated a NATO diplomat informed about the negotiations.
Another source indicated that allies «are practically returning to what was in the spring with the 'coalition of the willing'.
«Some European officials warned that this week's meetings are the first stage in a series of complex negotiations and bargaining, as Europe tries to cope with a potentially large and costly task of maintaining peace», – the publication states.
