The US offers Poland 250 Stryker armored vehicles for $1
The United States has proposed to Poland to transfer 250 used Stryker armored personnel carriers for a symbolic $1. This was reported by The Public citing Breaking Defense, Warsaw is ready to accept the terms and is already reviewing the details of the agreement. The informal proposal was made during high-level meetings between the defense ministries of the two countries.
It concerns equipment that was decommissioned from American units in Europe. The vehicles will require repairs and adaptation, but Poland does not hide that it sees this as an opportunity to quickly strengthen its army: the equipment can be put into operation much faster than new procurements.
Stryker is one of the most widespread armored personnel carriers in the USA: an eight-wheeled platform that can operate in various modifications — from transporting infantry to medevac or command posts. According to Polish military sources, the armored vehicles will be useful for territorial defense units and for strengthening the eastern border, where the threat level remains high.
The agreement does not provide for immediate free receipt of the equipment: it will be necessary to pay for modernization, logistics, and personnel training. However, the symbolic cost of $1 makes the proposal extremely attractive. The agreement also fits into the broader US strategy — to enhance the defense potential of allies amid Russian aggression.
A final decision is expected soon after the completion of the technical audit and approval by the Polish government.
