The US and Iran have announced progress in nuclear talks in Geneva
According to the US representative, the talks went as expected and allowed for progress to be made, although there are still many details that need to be agreed upon. After meeting with President Donald Trump's special representatives Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, the Iranian side promised to provide detailed proposals for resolving the differences within the next two weeks.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said the talks were serious, constructive and positive. According to him, the parties reached a common understanding on a set of guiding principles, on the basis of which they will begin preparing the text of a potential agreement. He stressed that this does not mean that the document will be signed quickly, but it does open a clearer path for further work.
Oman's Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi acted as a mediator in the negotiations. He said that the second round ended with significant progress in defining common goals and technical aspects. According to him, the parties outlined further steps and agreed to continue working on draft texts before the next meeting.
Against the backdrop of diplomatic efforts, the United States is strengthening its military presence in the Middle East. President Trump has sent a second aircraft carrier strike group to the region. According to open radar data and information from an American official, more than 50 F-35, F-22 and F-16 fighter jets have been redeployed to the region in the last 24 hours.
It is expected that after exchanging draft texts, the parties will set a date for the third round of negotiations.
