The USA has halted intelligence sharing about negotiations between Russia and Ukraine
This is reported by CBS News citing several American intelligence officials.
The memorandum signed by Gabbard on July 20 obliges American intelligence agencies to mark all materials related to negotiations as "NOFORN" – meaning prohibited from sharing with foreigners. This means that U.S. allies – the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand – will not have access to the relevant assessments and analytics. The only exception will be information that has already been publicly disclosed.
According to CBS, the directive restricts sharing only of materials about negotiations, not affecting military cooperation with Ukraine or diplomatic channels that are outside the scope of American intelligence.
Experts warn that such a step could undermine trust within the "Five Eyes" alliance, established after World War II for joint counterintelligence against the USSR and now critically important for gathering information about Russia.
Former U.S. National Security Council official Sam Winograd noted that the refusal to share could encourage allies to create their own channels without Washington's involvement.
At the same time, other former intelligence officials argue that such restrictions are common practice, as the interests of alliance members do not always align.
