The State Bureau of Investigations has interviewed dozens of witnesses and obtained DNA test results in the case of the Su-24M aircraft crash in the Khmelnytskyi region, in which two pilots were killed.

This has been reported by the State Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators established that this was the aircraft’s second flight of the day. Personnel at the military unit did not identify any issues with the aircraft’s technical condition either before the first flight or before the subsequent one. All official documentation was completed in accordance with established requirements.

The investigation confirmed that at the time of the crash, the pilots were carrying out a combat mission; the details of this mission have not been made public, but were reported to the investigators.

Separately, the investigation refuted information circulating online that one of the pilots had ejected.

Investigators conducted dozens of interviews, including with the families of the deceased, the command and their colleagues. According to eyewitnesses, both servicemen underwent the necessary medical examination before the flight, did not complain of feeling unwell and were in good spirits. They are described as professional military personnel who were respected by their colleagues, and no issues in their family lives that could be relevant to the investigation were found.

DNA analysis has confirmed that the deceased are 55-year-old Major Bohdan Zagorulko and 23-year-old Senior Lieutenant Bohdan Babenko of the 7th Petro Frank Tactical Aviation Brigade.

An internal investigation is currently underway, led by the command of the Ukrainian Air Force. This will be followed by an independent aviation and technical examination.

As a reminder, the Su-24M bomber crashed on 16 June, killing the pilot and navigator.
