The lights may come on more often: the government predicts a reduction in power cuts as early as this weekend
The government is coordinating the restoration of the power grid, increasing generation and connecting cogeneration plants.
Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said that Ukrainians may feel a reduction in the duration of power outages this weekend. She said this after a regular meeting of the energy headquarters with the participation of government agencies, energy companies and MPs.
According to the Prime Minister, the headquarters participants heard reports on the state of the power system and coordinated further steps to recover from the latest shelling, ensure fuel and equipment reserves, strengthen the protection of facilities and increase generation. The government's main task remains to ensure a stable supply of electricity to Ukrainians.
Svyridenko stressed that she is monitoring the implementation of the government's decision to revise the list of critical infrastructure. She expects all regional administrations to optimise electricity consumption on the ground.
Special attention was paid to connecting cogeneration plants to the grid. According to the Prime Minister, the government made the necessary decisions last week, and distributed generation facilities should be fully operational to reduce the deficit in the system.
All ministries and the regional state administration were also instructed to provide alternative power sources for vital infrastructure.
