Switzerland beat Algeria to reach the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup
The Swiss national team beat Algeria in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. The match at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada, ended in a 2–0 victory for Switzerland.
Murat Yakin’s side opened the scoring as early as the 10th minute. Breel Embolo slotted the ball into an empty net following a cross from Johan Manzambi.
Early in the second half, the Swiss extended their lead. In the 46th minute, Dan N’Doye fired a precise shot into the bottom left corner of the Algerian goal.
Thereafter, the Swiss side controlled the run of play and held onto their comfortable lead until the final whistle.
Switzerland have therefore progressed to the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. In the next round, they will face the winner of the Colombia v Ghana match.
In the group stage, Switzerland finished top of Group B. The team drew with Qatar, thrashed Bosnia and Herzegovina and beat Canada.
Algeria finished the group stage in third place in Group J. The team lost to Argentina, beat Jordan and drew with Austria.
The 2026 World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July in the USA, Mexico and Canada. This is the first World Cup to feature 48 national teams.
