The Ukrainian developer Phantom Defense has unveiled a new aeroplane-type unmanned aerial vehicle called Balaban.

This has been reported by ‘Oboronka’.

This aircraft has been specifically designed to intercept and destroy enemy air targets.

The aircraft is capable of conducting patrols lasting up to 2.5 hours, reaching speeds of up to 260 km/h and carrying over one kilogram of munitions or specialised equipment, and will eventually be fitted with an automatic target-tracking system.

The development of the Balaban was driven by the need for comprehensive protection against airborne threats, as individual systems are unable to ensure complete security.

The interceptor has become part of a large-scale integrated anti-UAV ecosystem, which combines detection tools, Skydarix radar systems with artificial intelligence, Specter electronic warfare systems, the Streamhunter video interception system, and Karakurt net launchers.

The effectiveness of this integrated approach has already been confirmed by the defence company’s practical experience.

In particular, during the implementation of a special project to protect urban infrastructure in one of Ukraine’s regions, the technical solutions deployed enabled the successful neutralisation and disabling of more than 7,000 enemy unmanned aerial vehicles over the course of a year.
