The USA beat Bosnia and Herzegovina in the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. The match at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara ended in a 2–0 victory for the hosts.
The Americans opened the scoring late in the first half. In the 45th minute, Folarin Balogun slotted the ball precisely between the legs of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s goalkeeper, Nikola Vasilj.
Prior to this, Balogun had also scored a goal, but the referee ruled it out for offside.
In the second half, the US team were reduced to ten men. In the 64th minute, Folarin Balogun was shown a straight red card following a harsh foul on Tarik Muharemović on the left flank.
Despite the sending-off, Mauricio Pochettino’s side continued to create chances. In the 79th minute, Christian Pulisic found the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
In the 82nd minute, the Americans finally doubled their lead. Malik Tillman took a free-kick from the left flank and curled the ball beautifully into the near corner.
Thanks to this victory, the US national team have progressed to the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup. The Americans will face Belgium for a place in the quarter-finals, after Belgium beat Senegal 3–2 in extra time in the first round of the play-offs.
