Switzerland beat Canada and qualified for the 2026 World Cup play-offs as group winners

The Swiss national team beat Canada in the final Group B match of the 2026 World Cup. Both teams had already secured their places in the round of 32.

The Swiss national team beat Canada in their third Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada, ended 2–1.

Neither side managed to score in the first half.

Early in the second half, the Swiss opened the scoring. In the 46th minute, Rubén Vargas finished off a cross from Joao Manzambi on the right flank.

In the 57th minute, Switzerland doubled their lead. Joao Manzambi scored following a pass from Breel Embolo.

The Canadians pulled one back in the 76th minute. David Promis scored following a pass from Nathan Saliba.

After that, the Canadian side tried to fight back, but were unable to avoid defeat.

In the other Group B match of the third round, Bosnia and Herzegovina beat Qatar 3–1.

At the end of the group stage, Switzerland finished top of the group with 7 points and qualified directly for the knockout stages. Canada finished second with 4 points and also secured their place in the round of 32.

The 2026 World Cup is taking place from 11 June to 19 July in the USA, Mexico and Canada. This is the first World Cup to feature 48 national teams.

The tournament participants are divided into 12 groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group, as well as the eight best third-placed teams, advance to the round of 32.
