Mysterious guest at the wedding: the couple searched for the answer for years
Michelle and John Wiley happily celebrated their wedding four years ago in November at a boutique hotel on the coast in western Scotland. The celebration took place in the company of friends and close family of the couple, as well as one completely unfamiliar man.

The couple noticed the mysterious guest only when they received the photographs — in them was a tall man in a dark suit with a somewhat confused expression on his face, reports BBC.

They questioned all relatives, friends, and staff of the establishment, even contacted the wedding photographer to find out who he was. No one could give any answer.

But now, after an investigator joined the search, the mysterious man was finally identified.

Andrew Gillhouse, who was supposed to be a guest at another wedding four kilometers away, told BBC Scotland News that he realized he was at the wrong wedding only when the bride walked down the aisle.

Michelle and John Wiley got married on November 20, 2021, at the Carlton Hotel in Prestwick, in the presence of family and friends — or at least, that’s what they thought.

"We didn't notice anything strange until we received the first photos, and my husband and I started reviewing them. Then we said: 'Who is this?'", recalls Michelle.

"At first, we started asking our parents, then moved on to my aunts and the rest of the family, then — to friends. Absolutely no one knew who he was.

"We even suspected that he was some kind of crazy stalker," the woman recalls.

Eventually, reaching out to content creator Dazza, asking him to share the photos and try to find the uninvited guest, finally helped identify the person.

On the same Saturday in November 2021, Andrew Gillhouse was late for the wedding. With only five minutes to spare, he drove up to the place he was told to arrive at, hurried inside, and took his seat. His partner David was supposed to be among the wedding procession, and Andrew, relieved, thought he had arrived on time.

But when the wedding procession started to move, he was seized by a foreboding feeling. "I assumed David was in another room with the bride," he recounts. "Music started playing, everyone turned to look at the bride, and the moment I saw her, I thought: 'Oh no, this isn’t Michaela, what is going on here?'"

"But by then, I was already in a situation from which I couldn't just leave — you can't stand up and walk out of a wedding that has already started. So I decided it was better to stay. I am 188 cm tall, taller than everyone else, so I tried to hunch a little to not stand out."

"I was just sitting and thinking: 'Please, let this end already.'

Andrew’s partner gave him the completely wrong address — the wedding he was supposed to attend was at the Great Western Hotel in Eyr.

After the ceremony, Andrew, who is from Trune, headed to the exit to call David, but it turned out that escaping was not so easy.

"I was heading to the door, and I hear: 'Can we gather everyone for a photo,' — and inside I was just shouting: 'Nooo!'". "So, in the photo, you can see my big head in the back row — I was trying to hide." Andrew finally managed to leave, although, as he admits, he still grabbed a glass of wine on the way out.

After that, Andrew was able to go to the real wedding he had planned to attend, and his funny story became a cheerful anecdote for other guests.

Eventually, one of his friends sent Andrew a social media post asking for help to find the uninvited guest. The man was able to explain online why he ended up at a wedding four years ago. This helped him get in touch with the bride Michelle — now they are friends on Facebook and recently met in person to laugh together at this story.
