Telegram has released an update
Telegram has released an update featuring a built-in AI text editor, enhanced polling capabilities, support for Live and Motion Photos, managed bots, and a PDF document scanner on iOS.

This is mentioned in Telegram’s official blog.

In the latest update, Telegram has integrated an AI text editor into the message bar. It can translate, correct grammar and rewrite messages in a different style. Available styles include Formal, Short, Tribal, Corp, Zen, Biblical and Viking. The company notes that this feature runs on open-source AI models, and requests are processed via the Cocoon Network in a confidential environment without access to user data. The AI icon appears above the send button once the user has typed more than three lines of text.

What’s new in Telegram

Separately, Telegram has significantly expanded the capabilities of polls. Now, media or geolocation can be attached to questions and answer options, descriptions can be added, users can be allowed to suggest new answer options, it is possible to show exactly who has voted, disable repeat voting, randomise options for each user, set time limits, and hide results until voting closes. The poll creator can also view the results without their own vote being counted.

The update also allows you to create new types of quizzes – including those with multiple correct answers or with repeat voting. If a poll with visible votes is created in a group chat, the creator will receive a notification every time someone votes, indicating the option selected. Furthermore, active and completed polls are now displayed in a separate tab in group and channel profiles.

Another part of the update concerns photos. Telegram has added native support for Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android. These images can be viewed in any Telegram app. Three modes are available for sending: Live, Loop and Bounce. The first plays the photo once, the second loops it, and the third plays it forwards and backwards in a loop.

Separately, Telegram has expanded the capabilities of bots. Following the Bot API update, bots can now create and manage other bots on behalf of the user. The company states that this allows users to launch their own AI bots and manage them without any programming.

For iOS users, Telegram has also added a document scanner. It allows users to scan documents using their smartphone’s camera, merge multiple images into a single file, automatically remove the background, crop images and save the result as a PDF. While scanning, users can also manually adjust the borders, apply a filter or rotate the image.

Alongside this, Telegram has announced a new security warning for unofficial apps. A special label will now appear on the profiles of users of third-party clients, warning others that messaging with them may be less secure.

As a reminder, ThePublic has identified a new online money-making scam. In TikTok live streams, unknown individuals are offering to “check” whether a person is wanted for mobilisation or military service in exchange for donations.
