The terrorist attack in Kyiv claimed the life of Igor Savchenko, a musician with the band “Drugoje Solntse”
Marina Yurevich posted on Facebook about the death of Igor Savchenko.
Marina Yurevich, who performed alongside Savchenko in “Drugoye Solntse”, described him as a true friend and a man who lived for music. According to “Detector Media”, the musician is survived by his wife and daughter.
How it all began
According to official information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the attack on 18 April began in the Holosiivskyi district, right on the street. An armed man shot people near a residential building, then moved on, entered a supermarket, took hostages there and opened fire. Negotiations with the attacker lasted around 40 minutes but proved fruitless, after which KORD special forces stormed the premises and neutralised the gunman.
The SBU classified the shooting of civilians and the hostage-taking as a terrorist attack. As of 18 April, law enforcement reported six dead and 14 wounded. On 20 April, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that another wounded person had died in hospital, bringing the death toll to seven. At that time, seven victims remained in hospital, including one child.
Among the dead was a family from Ladizhyn. Suspilne Vinnytsia, citing Ladizhyn.Info, reported that Oleksandr Arbuzov and Yana Siranchuk – his wife’s sister – were killed at the scene. Oleksandr’s wife, Lesya Arbuzova, suffered serious injuries and is in hospital. The family’s 11-year-old son was also injured; his condition was initially assessed as stable. Another child in the family was unharmed. The victims’ niece wrote on social media that the family had tried to save themselves and their children during the attack.
The fact that Ihor Savchenko was one of the victims of the terrorist attack became known following Marina Yurevich’s post. Suspilne Kyiv and Ukrinform separately noted that the musician was killed during the shooting on 18 April in the Holosiivskyi district.
As reported by ThePublic, the Head of the Patrol Police Department of Ukraine, Yevhen Zhukov, is stepping down from his post. These personnel changes are taking place alongside the preparation of an official resolution by the Verkhovna Rada regarding the assessment of police actions during the terrorist attack in Kyiv on 18 April
