Terror in the Sumy region: dozens injured, including 19 children

The situation in the Sumy region remains critical as of the morning of 5 April 2026. Over the past 24 hours, the enemy has carried out more than 60 attacks, with 35 settlements across 18 local communities coming under fire. The air raid alert in the region lasted almost continuously for 23 hours and 6 minutes

This has been reported by the Sumy Regional Military Administration

Mass casualties among civilians

The most severe consequences were recorded in the Sumy community. As a result of a UAV attack on the night of 4 April, 19 children (aged between 2 and 15) and 10 adults were injured. During the day on 4 April, two more residents were injured due to repeated drone attacks.

Other cases of injuries in the region:

  • Popivska community: two women (aged 65 and 66) were injured as a result of a rocket strike.

  • Shveitsarska community: a drone struck a car, injuring a 69-year-old man.

  • Hlukhiv community: a UAV strike on a car — a 25-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were injured.

  • Shostka community: a woman who was injured by a KAB strike on 3 April sought medical assistance.

 The enemy deployed its entire arsenal: artillery, mortars, FPV drones, UAVs and missiles. The heaviest shelling was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts.

Civilian infrastructure under fire:

  • Residential sector: private houses destroyed in the Esmanska, Berezivska and Seredyna-Budska communities. High-rise buildings damaged in Sumy, Konotop and Shostka.

  • Transport: cars have been damaged and destroyed in the Hlukhiv, Velykopysarivka, Shveitsarska and Sumy communities.

  • Public facilities: damage to administrative buildings, non-residential premises and critical infrastructure has been recorded in 13 communities across the region.

The military administration and emergency services are continuing to deal with the aftermath of the shelling and are providing assistance to all those affected.
