Ukrainian developers have launched the AI assistant Lapathoniia Chat, which is powered by domestic large language models.

This is according to a post by Ukrainian developers on LinkedIn.

What is Lapathoniia Chat

The AI assistant Lapathoniia Chat has launched in Ukraine.

It was created using large Ukrainian language models. The project is positioned as a local alternative to popular neural networks in the familiar chatbot format.

The developers note that the service aims to demonstrate the true potential of Ukrainian LLMs not through technical specifications, but through direct interaction with the user.

Data is stored in Ukraine

Lapathoniia Chat runs on De Novo’s cloud infrastructure.

The entire project infrastructure is hosted in Ukrainian data centres.

According to the developers, this means that user data physically remains within Ukraine and is not transferred to foreign servers.

The project emphasises full control and data security.

What you can already test

Users can work with files, perform web searches, access the model’s ‘memory’, and carry out complex analytical tasks.

The service also supports an OpenAI-compatible API. For integration, you can change the base_url and use the standard OpenAI SDK.

Features also include real-time response generation for interactive applications, access control via API keys, and budgets and limits for teams and test integrations.

A single request can contain up to 32,000 tokens, including the input context and the response.

Ukrainian language models

In the current release, two Ukrainian language models are available to users – MamayLM and Lapa LLM.

The team plans to expand the list of available models in the future.

The developers emphasise that the models are optimised for the Ukrainian language, Ukrainian contexts and products.

Who supports the project

The project is being implemented with the support of the Department of Artificial Intelligence Systems at Lviv Polytechnic National University.

The university noted that the development of Ukrainian AI technologies is important for building a domestic technology ecosystem.

“Today, the development of Ukrainian AI technologies is extremely important, and the emergence of such initiatives helps to form our own technological ecosystem and create solutions tailored to the Ukrainian context and needs,” said Lviv Polytechnic.

How to access

Lapathoniia Chat is currently in closed beta testing.

The team is gathering feedback on response speed, contextual understanding and user-friendliness.

To gain access, you need to email the developers a brief description of the task and your company name.
