The Denmark v Ukraine match was abandoned early after Christian Eriksen collapsed
The friendly match between the national teams of Denmark and Ukraine in Odense was brought to an early close after Denmark’s captain, Christian Eriksen, collapsed during the second half, according to Sport.ua.
The incident occurred in the 65th minute of the match. The player required urgent medical attention, causing the game to be suspended for a considerable period.
After the break, the match organisers, representatives of both national teams and the refereeing team decided not to resume the match and to end it early.
At the time the match was called off, Denmark were leading Ukraine 2-1.
After receiving treatment, Christian Eriksen regained consciousness. The Danish Football Association reported that the player is conscious and feeling well. He was subsequently hospitalised for further examination.
This is not the first such incident for Eriksen. During a Euro 2020 match against Finland, he also collapsed on the pitch. On that occasion, the Danish footballer suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.
The national teams of Denmark and Ukraine played the match after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place from 11 June to 19 July in Mexico, the USA and Canada.
In the FIFA rankings, Denmark are in 20th place, while Ukraine are in 32nd position.
