The Economic Security Bureau is unaware of the specific hardware and software system for which MPs are requesting 81 million hryvnias from the budget
This emerged from the Economic Security Bureau’s response to an enquiry from ThePublic.
In particular, the Economic Security Bureau noted that the system is required for a digital laboratory established by a relevant order. However, there are currently no specialists in this unit, so no information is available regarding the hardware and software system or its potential cost.
“As of the date of this response, the Digital Laboratory Department of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine is still in the process of recruiting staff, and therefore no employees have yet been appointed to this unit. Furthermore, as of the date of consideration of the request, there is no information regarding the specific hardware and software complex planned for procurement for the needs of the digital laboratory, its technical specifications, functional purpose and expected cost,” - the ESBU response states.
As a reminder, the day before, Ukrainian MP Maksym Buzhansky published an excerpt from a letter from the Economic Security Bureau to parliamentarians, in which the Bureau requested an additional allocation of 554.7 million hryvnias from the budget. In the list of needs for which these funds are to be allocated, the Bureau noted the purchase of a software and hardware complex for the digital laboratory, costing 81 million hryvnias.
As previously reported by ThePublic, over the last four months the Economic Security Bureau’s results have deteriorated significantly compared to the same period last year. In particular, there has been a decrease in recoveries to the budget and in the number of indictments sent to court in cases related to illegal gambling, the laundering of criminally obtained funds, official forgery, and so on.
