The innovative Okhmatdyt building has been fully restored — Lyashko
This was stated by Health Minister Viktor Lyashko during Question Time in the Verkhovna Rada.
“The ‘Okhmatdyt’ Innovation Building has been 100% restored. The issue is that following the restoration and completion of construction work, the heads of departments are carrying out an ‘acceptance’ of the work done and finalising the paperwork so that the certificates can then be signed and payments made. Construction is complete. Our colleagues working in the Innovation Building are accepting the work, and payment will be made. I do not foresee any further problems. The Innovation Building at Okhmatdyt did not stop work for a single day. This also complicated the restoration period,” said the minister.
The strike on “Okhmatdyt”: what is known
On 8 July 2024, Russian forces carried out a massive missile strike on Ukraine, targeting, in particular, the “Okhmatdyt” children’s hospital, where 627 children were being treated. Health Minister Viktor Lyashko said that the Russian strike hit the toxicology wing, where children were undergoing dialysis.
Two people were killed and a further 50 injured as a result of the attack on the medical facility. A boy who had been injured in the attack later died in hospital.
The state immediately promised to rebuild the hospital — the government allocated 100 million hryvnias for urgent restoration work. In addition, within 41 hours, concerned citizens donated 300 million hryvnias to ‘Okhmatdyt’.
However, following reports that the tender for the reconstruction had been won by a company with a much more expensive bid, the tender was cancelled and a new one announced. The Ministry of Health also formed a Council for the hospital’s reconstruction. The start of construction work has been postponed until spring 2025.
