The NABU and the SAPO have uncovered a new corruption scheme at Energoatom — they suspect the embezzlement of 170 million hryvnias
This was reported by the NABU press office.
Among the suspects:
- the organiser of the scheme — the beneficial owner of a number of companies;
- the former head of a department at the ‘Atomproektinzhining’ subsidiary, which is part of ‘Energoatom’.
According to the investigation, the scheme organiser’s company was completing the construction of the Tashlyk pumped-storage power station. Despite missed deadlines and even bankruptcy proceedings, additional agreements were constantly being signed with the company — changing the scope of work and deadlines.
Under more than 70 such agreements, equipment worth over 305 million hryvnias was purchased. The transaction was channelled through a foreign firm, which allowed the cost to be inflated by almost 170 million hryvnias.
The organiser of the scheme has been arrested. He has been charged with embezzlement on a particularly large scale. The penalty is between 7 and 12 years’ imprisonment.
