The National Bank has unveiled a new commemorative 2-hryvnia coin to mark the 100th anniversary of the commemoration of Symon Petliura.

This was announced by the National Bank of Ukraine.

The National Bank of Ukraine has unveiled a commemorative coin marking the “100th anniversary of the commemoration of Symon Petliura”.

The coin is being issued to honour the memory of Symon Petliura – a statesman, military and political figure, head of the Directory of the Ukrainian People’s Republic and Chief Ataman of the UPR’s armed forces.

The year 2026 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Symon Petliura.

The National Bank noted that Petliura became a symbol of the Ukrainians’ struggle for independence and statehood in the early 20th century.

Denomination and mintage

The commemorative coin has a face value of 2 hryvnias.

Up to 50,000 coins will be minted.

The coin will be issued in a souvenir pack.

What the coin looks like

The obverse of the coin features a stylised portrait of Symon Petliura against a mirror-finish background.

To the left is an element of the insignia from his tunic in the form of a branch.

The reverse of the coin features an artistic composition incorporating elements of the UNR’s symbolism.

In the centre is a trident – a depiction of the 1919-style sleeve insignia.

Around the edge is the inscription “100th Anniversary of Simon Petliura Remembrance Day” and a wreath from Simon Petliura’s diploma bearing the inscription “UNR”.

When to buy

The coin will be available for purchase from 26 May.

It will be available in the NBU’s online numismatic shop and from distributor banks.
