The first teams to qualify for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup have been decided
The round of 32 matches are currently underway at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The first round of the knockout stage is taking place from 28 June to 4 July.
Thirty-two of the 48 national teams that successfully progressed from the group stage of the World Cup are taking part in this stage of the tournament.
The winners of these single-match ties advance to the next round and continue their bid for the trophy.
As things stand, the first seven teams to have secured their places in the round of 16 have been decided.
The following teams have progressed to the next stage of the tournament:
Canada
Brazil
Paraguay
Morocco
Norway
France
and Mexico
The round of 16 matches are still underway, so the list of teams in the round of 16 will be updated with new entries shortly.
The 2026 World Cup is being held in the USA, Mexico and Canada from 11 June to 19 July.
This is the first World Cup in history to feature 48 national teams. Previous tournaments from 1998 to 2022 used a 32-team format.
Argentina remain the reigning world champions, having defeated France on penalties in the final of the 2022 World Cup.
