There will be no official beach season in Kyiv this year: here’s why
Beach Season in Kyiv 2026
There are no plans to announce an official swimming season in Kyiv in the summer of 2026. However, despite the absence of an official start to the swimming season, lifeguards will be on duty at the main locations. The city will also ensure regular cleaning, checks on the condition of the sand and monitoring of water quality.

The relevant decision was previously adopted by the capital’s Defence Council under martial law back in April.

The main reason remains the security risks during air raid alerts. City authorities stress that there are not enough shelters near many beaches, and large crowds could complicate evacuation and the work of emergency services.

At the same time, there are no plans to close access to beaches and recreational areas near bodies of water. Municipal services will continue to clean the areas, clear the shoreline, monitor water quality and carry out sanitation measures.

What will be operating on the beaches

Despite the absence of an official start to the bathing season, lifeguards will be on duty at the main locations. The city will also ensure regular cleaning, checks on the condition of the sand and monitoring of water quality.

Pavlo Ivanov, Director of the Kyiv City State Administration’s Department of Environmental Protection, previously noted that the city is focusing on the basic comfort and safety of holidaymakers.

Which beaches are safe

According to the Kyiv City Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the water meets sanitary standards at the following beaches:

  • ‘Chortoryi’;
  • ‘Venice’;
  • “Veselka”;
  • “Molodizhny”;
  • “Peredmistna Slobidka”;
  • “Central”.

At the same time, experts advise against swimming at the following beaches:

  • “Galernyi”;
  • “Troieshchyna”;
  • “Dytiachyi”;
  •  “Zolotyi”;
  •  “Rainbow”;
  • “Telbin”;
  • “Verbny”;
  • “Pushcha-Vodytsia”;
  • “Obolon Island”.

The figures may change, as water quality will be monitored throughout the summer.

Plans to restore water bodies in Kyiv

In addition to safety issues, environmental projects are continuing in the capital.

In 2026, the city plans to revitalise a number of water bodies, including Lake Soniachne, Lake Yordanske, Desenka Bay, Lake Berizka and the water body on Dankevych Street.

The work will involve analysing water quality, cleaning the water bodies and monitoring their condition.

The city authorities are urging Kyiv residents not to ignore air raid sirens and to follow the recommendations of rescue workers when relaxing near the water.
