U.S. President Donald Trump is ready to sign a sanctions bill against Russia, but on the condition that he retains the authority to make the final decision regarding these measures. This was reported by Reuters.
"He will sign it. He made this known last night," said a senior White House official.
At the same time, the official added that the White House will insist on specific wording that guarantees Trump will retain control over sanctions.
"For the White House and the president, it has always been important that the sanctions package includes a provision that guarantees the president the right to make the final decision on sanctions. So, if this is included, I think the president will consider signing the bill," explained the official.
Meanwhile, he added that the White House continues negotiations with Russia regarding the cessation of the war in Ukraine.
"We are definitely still working on this. It just hasn't been in the news because there's so much going on," summarized the administration official.
