Trump announced the "historic dawn of a new Middle East"
In a speech before the Israeli Knesset, Donald Trump outlined his vision for peace in the Middle East on the occasion of the return of hostages released by "Hamas" (a group recognized as a terrorist organization in the US and the EU), reports ThePublic.info, citing Radio Liberty.
"Today the sky is calm, guns are silent, sirens are not wailing, and the sun is rising over the Holy Land, where peace has finally been restored," declared US President Trump in his speech, which was briefly interrupted by disapproval from an opposition legislator.
Trump also mentioned the war in Ukraine, telling legislators: "I thought it would be easy to resolve. I thought it was much easier than what we just very successfully did with Israel."
In Tel Aviv, about 65,000 people celebrated the release of 20 hostages who survived captivity by "Hamas." Meanwhile, Israel is releasing about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
Many analysts say that Trump secretly used this leverage to force Israel to agree to his 20-point peace plan. Public pressure was also exerted on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, especially after Israel's airstrike last month on a target in Qatar — a key US ally — targeting "Hamas."
There were some "quite impressive visual effects," where Netanyahu "apologizes to Qataris for the strike in Doha," noted Laurel Rapp, head of the US program at the London-based analytical center Chatham House, in a podcast on October 10.
Now Donald Trump is likely to focus on finding ways to end the war in Ukraine, which he himself called perhaps the most difficult international conflict to resolve in the world.
