US President Donald Trump said that Iran's future supreme leader will not be able to remain in power for long without the approval of the United States. He said this in an interview with ABC News.
"He will have to get approval from us," Trump said. "If he doesn't get approval from us, he won't last long. We want to be sure that we don't have to come back every 10 years when you don't have a president like me who won't do that."
He added that he does not want the situation to repeat itself in a few years or for Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.
"I don't want people to come back in five years and do the same thing again or, even worse, allow them to have nuclear weapons," the president said.
When asked if he was willing to accept a candidate associated with the old regime, Trump replied that he would consider the possibility.
"I would agree to choose a good leader, I would agree, yes, I would agree. There are many people who could be suitable," he said.
The president also said that Iran was planning to take control of the entire Middle East.
