More than 7,000 soldiers from North Korea have been killed or wounded in Russia’s war against Ukraine
7,058 North Korean soldiers have been killed or wounded in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
This was reported by Dmitry Usov, a representative of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, during the presentation of the report ‘Foreign Fighters in the Russian Army: How to Stop the Global Recruitment Scheme’, according to Interfax Ukraine.
The DPRK’s military presence in Russia’s war against Ukraine stands at 14,061 personnel (9,500 currently deployed).
Combat losses amount to 7,058 personnel. Of these, 2,251 were killed in action and 4,807 were wounded.
In February, the South Korean news agency Yonhap reported that 6,000 North Korean soldiers had been killed or wounded in Russia’s war against Ukraine.
South Korea’s intelligence service stated that approximately 11,000 North Korean soldiers are currently fighting on Moscow’s side in the frontline region of Kursk. 10,000 are regular troops, and 1,000 are engineers. Around 1,100 soldiers who had already been on the front line and returned in December 2025 are to be sent back to fight against Ukraine.
As a reminder, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un previously praised DPRK soldiers for blowing themselves up in the war in Ukraine rather than being taken prisoner.
