Two suspects in the Louvre robbery were detained in France
One of the detainees was arrested at Roissy Airport on Saturday evening, as he was already preparing to board a flight to Algiers, reports ThePublic.info citing Le Figaro.
"Just one week of intensive hunting was enough to dismantle the first part of the group that robbed the Louvre last Sunday," the publication writes. "Two criminals involved in this high-profile theft were detained on Saturday evening. One – in Roissy, as he was preparing to board a flight to Algiers. The operation was carried out around 10:00 PM by the Banditry Suppression Brigade (BRB), which was responsible for the investigation and mobilized over 100 investigators during the week. At the same time, the second suspect was also arrested by the Paris Judicial Police in the Seine-Saint-Denis department. Both men were taken into custody on suspicion of organized theft and forming a criminal group."
Eight valuables from the French crown worth a total of 88 million euros have not yet been recovered as of Sunday morning.
Additionally, detectives investigating the Louvre robbery suspect that one of the museum security staff assisted the criminals by providing them with information about the Louvre's security system, reports Telegraph.
There is evidence in the form of records and messages indicating cooperation between one of the museum guards and the robbers. He allegedly provided confidential information regarding the Louvre's security system.
