An oil spill occurred in the port of occupied Mariupol
An oil spill occurred in the port of occupied Mariupol. The leak occurred during the lifting of a dredger by the company Orentex, according to the Mariupol City Council.
The occupying administration stated that the work was carried out without the approval of the Russian environmental protection agency. The leak occurred against the backdrop of a prolonged environmental crisis in Mariupol. During almost four years of occupation, the city's rivers have turned into murky reservoirs due to regular discharges of sewage and industrial waste. The pollution enters the Sea of Azov, which has already led to the mass disappearance of fish.
Local residents report cases of fish and dolphin deaths. The city is also experiencing a water crisis: water is supplied only a few hours every two days, and residents describe its quality as terrible. The water is not even suitable for technical use.
