Patients now have a wider choice of medicines available for reimbursement. The updated list under the scheme now comprises 748 items.

The Ministry of Health has updated the list of medicines and medical devices eligible for reimbursement under the ‘Affordable Medicines’ programme

The relevant order from the Ministry of Health came into force on 31 March 2026.

From now on, patients can obtain even more essential medicines under the programme free of charge or with a partial co-payment — via an electronic prescription.

Thirty-seven new medicines in various dosages have been added to the updated list.

For the first time, medicines containing two active ingredients have been included in the programme — Ospamox (amoxicillin) and Unilat (ofloxacin).

In other cases, the list of brand names for medicines containing active ingredients that were already available under the scheme has been expanded. This broadens the choice of medicines available to patients under the reimbursement scheme.

New medicines have been added in several areas, including for the treatment of:

  • cardiovascular diseases;
  • infectious diseases;
  • diabetes;
  • mental and behavioural disorders, epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease;
  • respiratory diseases;
  • ophthalmological diseases;
  • migraines;
  • certain types of cancer;
  • prevention during pregnancy.

For cardiovascular diseases, the programme includes Telpres Plus (telmisartan + hydrochlorothiazide), Indap (indapamide), Tiurex (hydrochlorothiazide), Veroshpiron (spironolactone), Toradiv (torasemide), Acecor Cardio (acetylsalicylic acid).

For the treatment of infectious diseases in children, Ospamox (amoxicillin), Tricaside (metronidazole), Uniflox (ofloxacin) and Cipronex (ciprofloxacin) have been added to the list. It is amoxicillin and ofloxacin that have become the new active substances appearing in the programme for the first time.

In the area of mental and behavioural disorders, the programme has been expanded to include Escitalopram Teva, Asitalox (escitalopram) and Quetiron (quetiapine).

The programme also includes Levenium (levetiracetam) for patients with epilepsy, Levocom Retard Asino (levodopa + carbidopa) for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease, Metafora®-SR and Metformin (metformin) for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, and Ventolin Evohaler (salbutamol) for patients with respiratory diseases.

Separately, the list includes medicines for the treatment of glaucoma — Prolatan, Unilat, Xaloptic Eco (latanoprost), the migraine treatment Migrenet (sumatriptan), Astra Folic Acid (folic acid) for use during pregnancy, as well as drugs for the treatment of malignant breast tumours — Aralet (letrozole) and Exemarin (exemestane).
