Russia publishes school textbook on drones for high school students
The Russian Federation has published an official textbook on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for students in grades 10–11. It is also planned to be used in schools in temporarily occupied territories. This was reported by the Centre for Countering Disinformation.
According to the information, the publication offers high school students a complete course on creating a drone — from design to practical application. The programme covers design, programming, testing, 3D modelling, the use of computer vision technologies and elements of artificial intelligence. Separate sections are devoted to the procedure for registering UAVs and interacting with regulatory authorities.
The Centre notes that in 2024, Russia already published a textbook on drones for 8th and 9th grade students. It is used in vocational education (technology) classes. This creates a consistent system for preparing schoolchildren to work with unmanned systems, from middle school to high school.
Officially, Russian officials call the innovation a tool for career guidance and the development of technical skills. At the same time, the Centre for Countering Disinformation notes that in the context of full-scale war and the active use of drones in combat operations, the introduction of such disciplines can be seen as part of the militarisation of the educational process. According to the Centre's assessment, the state is thus forming a personnel reserve for the field of unmanned systems.
