Russian vessel Adler from the sanctions list is being inspected in Swedish waters
In Swedish territorial waters, law enforcement officers inspected the Russian cargo ship Adler, which was anchored near the city of Göganes. The operation took place at around 1am with the participation of Swedish customs, the coastguard and police, including the National Operational Unit. This was reported by The Public with reference to Swedenherald.
According to a representative of the Swedish Customs Service, the inspection went smoothly. The cargo inspection is ongoing, and information about its contents has not yet been made public. The vessel explained its entry into Swedish waters by technical problems with the engine.
According to local media, the Swedish Security Service could also have been involved in the operation, but this has not been officially confirmed.
The Adler left the port near St Petersburg four days ago. It is owned by M Leasing LLC, which is under EU and US sanctions. The restrictions were imposed because of suspicions that the company's vessels had previously transported munitions from North Korea that Russia could use in its war against Ukraine.
The Swedish Coast Guard assisted customs officers in the operation, as the customs service does not have its own vessels for such actions. The results of the inspection are expected to be announced upon completion of the inspection.
