Plane carrying Libyan army chief of staff crashes over Ankara in Turkey
Radio communication with a private jet that, according to local media, could have been carrying the Libyan army chief of staff, Mohammed Ali Ahmed al-Haddad, has been lost in Turkey. The incident was reported by the Turkish broadcaster NTV and the Reuters news agency.
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Erlikaya said the plane took off from Ankara's Esenboga airport at 17:10 GMT and was heading for Tripoli. The radio signal disappeared at 17:52. Before that, the crew requested permission to make an emergency landing when the plane was flying over the Hayman district of Ankara province, but after the request, the connection was cut off.
According to official data, there were five people on board, including a Libyan military commander and four other passengers. After the incident, some flights were diverted from Ankara, and there were reports of restrictions on the airport. The reasons for the loss of communication are being investigated by Turkish authorities.
