The Verkhovna Rada supported the creation of Ukrainian Music Day
This was reported by The Public with reference to the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy.
The initiative to introduce Ukrainian Music Day was considered by the relevant committee in response to an appeal from representatives of the music community, in particular the Ukrainian Agency for Copyright and Related Rights. The aim is to set a specific date for the development of the industry and support for national cultural products.
The head of the subcommittee on the music industry, Oleksandr Sanchenko, said that the third Saturday in September has been proposed for the celebration. According to him, the choice of this date is linked to the historical context.
The introduction of the commemorative date is planned to be formalised by a resolution of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on behalf of the members of the relevant committee. People's Deputy Mykola Knyazhitsky noted that this issue will be regulated within the framework of a draft law on commemorative dates and professional holidays, which is being prepared jointly with the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. The registration of the relevant resolution will officially confirm the status of the holiday.
The choice of the third Saturday in September is linked to the first All-Ukrainian Festival of Contemporary Song and Popular Music "Chervona Ruta", which took place in Chernivtsi in September 1989.
The festival participants included Vasyl Zhdanin, Maria Burmaka, Andriy Mykolaychuk, Sister Vika and the Telnyuk sisters. The music groups "Braty Hadyukiny", "Komu vnyz" and "Rutenia" also gained popularity.
The Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine noted that the establishment of such a date is intended to create an official platform for the development of the Ukrainian music industry.
