Hungarian delegation to visit Ukraine to inspect Druzhba oil pipeline
A Hungarian delegation travelled to Ukraine to inspect the condition of the Druzhba oil pipeline and hold talks on resuming oil supplies.
The delegation is headed by Gabor Csapek, State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Energy. He first announced his arrival at the border on social media, and later wrote that he was heading to the Ukrainian capital.
"On the way to Kyiv!" Chepek said in his post.
According to him, the main purpose of the trip is to hold negotiations to protect Hungary's energy interests and resume the operation of the oil pipeline as soon as possible.
Before crossing the border in the city of Zahony, the Hungarian official said that the delegation plans to discuss the situation not only with representatives of the Ukrainian government responsible for energy, but also with ambassadors of other countries and a representative of the European Commission.
He stressed that, in the opinion of the Hungarian side, the energy situation in Europe can be resolved by resuming oil supplies from the east. Csépek also emphasised that the oil in question is the property of Hungary and, according to him, is not subject to European Union or US sanctions.
In addition to the state secretary, the delegation includes an oil industry expert, an international relations specialist and an energy market analyst.
