Uklon has begun testing remote vehicle control technology at Boryspil Airport. The project is intended to pave the way for the launch of autonomous vehicles and robotaxis in Ukraine.

Uklon’s press office announced the launch of the trial, according to Forbes Ukraine.

Uklon has begun testing remote-controlled vehicles at Boryspil Airport.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the airport, where a special testing platform has been set up. The aim is to test how remotely controlled cars perform in various conditions and to begin preparing the regulatory framework for the launch of autonomous transport in Ukraine.

In the first phase, the company is testing remote vehicle control in real-world conditions.

How the technology works

Special software, cameras, sensors, lidar and mobile communications are used for the tests.

The driver controls the car remotely via a special station in real time.

The technology is supplied by the Estonian company Elmo. Its solution is certified in Europe.

Who was involved in the testing

Uklon partner drivers were involved in the testing.

Among them is a war veteran who uses a wheelchair.

The company notes that this technology could be useful for people with lower limb amputations, as it allows them to drive the car using manual controls.

Who attended the presentation

The technology was presented on 27 May.

Representatives from the government, local authorities and the media were invited to the event. It was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Digital Transformation, the Ministry of Economy, the Kyiv City State Administration and relevant ministries.
