Ukraine is to introduce a Ukrainian Music Day — the Verkhovna Rada has passed a resolution
Ukrainian Music Day
On 27 May, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution establishing Ukrainian Music Day. It will be celebrated annually on the third Saturday in September.

This is stated on the Council’s website.

The proposed date is linked to the ‘Chervona Ruta’ festival held in 1989, which became a landmark event in the history of Ukrainian culture and contemporary Ukrainian music.

This day is also intended to honour the contribution of Ukrainian performers to the development of national culture, to support cultural resistance in the face of Russia’s armed aggression, and to strengthen the Ukrainian cultural sphere, free from Russian influence.

Representatives of the music industry, in particular the Ukrainian Agency for Copyright and Related Rights, approached MPs with a proposal to introduce Ukrainian Music Day, said Oleksandr Sanchenko, chair of the Subcommittee on the Music Industry of the Committee on Humanitarian and Information Policy.

According to him, the professional music community should have its own day to consolidate efforts for the development of Ukrainian music and to strengthen state support for the sector.

As a reminder, ThePublic previously reported on when Kyiv Day will be celebrated in 2026.
