Ukraine is discussing drone incidents with the Baltic states
This is according to ERR.
The Baltic states are concerned about new incidents
According to the publication, just a few days after two drones crashed and damaged an oil storage facility, residents of Latvia were again warned of an aerial threat on 7 May. Against the backdrop of these events, Ukraine has begun discussing with the Baltic states the issue of strengthening airspace security. Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur stated that Tallinn is currently awaiting further clarification from the Ukrainian side regarding the initiative.
“What exactly does this mean? This is precisely what we are currently working on very urgently,” said Pevkur.
At the same time, he noted that the simplest way to prevent Ukrainian drones from entering Baltic airspace is “more effective control over their own activities”.
Ukraine does not plan to share details of its operations
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasised that Ukraine has the right to strike Russian targets, but the Estonian government is concerned about the risk of serious incidents near its borders. According to him, these issues have already been discussed with the Ukrainian side. Latvian Defence Minister Andris Spruds stated that one should not expect Kyiv to disclose details of military operations or drone flight paths.
“This is operational information,” he noted.
Estonia calls for more proactive action
Estonian security expert Rainer Saks stated that the authorities of the Baltic states should work more actively on their own to minimise risks, rather than waiting for specific proposals from Ukraine. Meanwhile, Hanno Pevkur reported that during his latest conversation with the Ukrainian defence minister, the parties discussed technical methods for controlling drone flights. In particular, they discussed changing flight paths and the use of automatic drone destruction systems in the event of a deviation from course.
