This was reported by Denys Shmyhal
Key areas of cooperation:
The document broadens the scope of cooperation for infrastructure restoration and sector development in line with the following priorities:
-
Modernisation: upgrading existing nuclear power plants and facilities in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone.
-
New construction: facilitating the construction of new power units, in particular at the Khmelnytskyi NPP.
-
Grid security: restoration of the electricity grid infrastructure, which is critical for the stable operation of nuclear power stations.
-
Reforms: supporting the institutional restructuring of NAEK Energoatom.
Unique expertise and humanitarian aid
During his visit, Rafael Grossi shared with the Ukrainian side a unique methodology for operating nuclear power plants in wartime conditions. This document, developed under an agreement reached last July, will serve as a foundation for global best practice and help prevent potential nuclear disasters.
In addition to strategic agreements, the IAEA has provided two ambulances for the needs of the South Ukraine and Chernobyl NPPs, which will enhance the medical response capability at the plants.
