Ukraine is demanding that YouTube block adverts for the Russian company ‘Alabuga’
This is stated in a joint statement by the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
Ukraine is demanding that YouTube block advertisements for the Russian company ‘Alabuga’.
This concerns advertising content for “Alabuga Polytech”, which Ukrainian authorities have identified on the video platform.
The joint statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Youth and Sports notes that such material was posted without proper verification and without any response from YouTube.
“Alabuga Polytech” is part of the sanctioned special economic zone “Alabuga”.
According to the Ukrainian side, it is there that students, including minors, are being recruited to produce Shahed attack drones.
The statement also specifically mentioned the situation regarding the Twitch platform.
On 25 April, a Counter-Strike 2 tournament was streamed on Twitch, which was used to promote “Alabuga”.
Following this, Twitch quickly blocked the accounts that had streamed or advertised the tournament.
Meanwhile, according to Ukrainian authorities, YouTube and Google have yet to respond to similar content.
“Esports and digital platforms cannot be a cover for the militarisation of education, the recruitment of teenagers and the promotion of military enterprises subject to sanctions,” the joint statement reads.
The Ukrainian side insists that digital platforms must respond to the promotion of entities linked to Russian military production.
This is particularly important when it comes to the involvement of minors in such activities.
