Ukraine and Saudi Arabia are preparing a security cooperation agreement
On 26 March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in Saudi Arabia on an unannounced visit. During his trip, he plans to sign a security cooperation agreement with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud.
This involves, in particular, cooperation on airspace defence. The details of the future agreement have not been disclosed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his visit on Telegram, noting that important meetings were planned and expressing his gratitude for the support.
Earlier, the President of Ukraine stated that Ukrainian expert teams are working in Middle Eastern countries. In particular, they have already arrived in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Saudi Arabia and are heading to Kuwait.
According to him, as of mid-March, there were 201 Ukrainian military experts in the region, with a further 34 ready for deployment.
Ukraine explains that this cooperation is taking place at the request of partners, notably the United States of America, and is linked to defence against Shahed drones, which are also being used in the war against Ukraine.
The President emphasised that Ukraine has no interest in Iran continuing its attacks against countries in the region.
At the same time, US President Donald Trump had previously stated that his country does not require Ukraine’s assistance in the field of drone defence.
