Ukraine has dismantled a network for bringing in "Shahids" – Fedorov
This was announced by Mykhailo Fedorov during a meeting with journalists, according to Ukrainska Pravda.
According to Fedorov, the elimination of the Mesh network had a positive impact on the defence capabilities of Kyiv and central Ukraine.
"We managed to eliminate the Mesh network used by the Shahids in the north, which had a positive impact on the defence capabilities of Kyiv and central Ukraine," he said.
Fedorov did not specify how the network was destroyed or how it was organised.
Defence Minister Advisor Serhiy "Flash" Beskrestnov explained in a comment to Ukrayinska Pravda that the Mesh network operates on the principle that all its participants are repeaters for each other.
"But this network, in which many 'Shahids' operate simultaneously, needs to be connected to the control centre, to the Russian operators who manage the process. And such control centres are located on the territory of Russia and were located on the territory of Belarus. What does it look like? It is a regular mobile operator tower, or some other type, 70-80 metres high, with powerful antennas pointing towards Ukraine. In other words, these are hubs through which information from the "Shahids" is sent to the control point," Beskrestnov explained.
Earlier, on 26 December, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that equipment had been placed in Belarus near the border to help guide the Shaheds to targets in western Ukraine.
