Ukraine may not manage to repair its energy infrastructure before winter: the Rada has cited the reason
Serhiy Nahorniak, a Member of Parliament from the “Servant of the People” party, spoke about this on the NoVyny.Live programme.
Ukraine risks failing to complete part of the repairs to its energy infrastructure in time for the onset of winter due to delays in the delivery of the necessary equipment. Serhiy Nahorniak, a Member of Parliament from the “Servant of the People” party, highlighted this issue.
According to him, Ukrenergo is already experiencing an acute shortage of spare parts, and this could prevent the proper repair of damaged facilities.
Nahorniak claims that the Energy Community fund, through which European partners finance the supply of equipment, operates under a closed system. He says that selected companies purchase the necessary transformers and other components exclusively from European factories.
This, in the MP’s view, is one of the main problems. He stated that manufacturers in Europe cannot speed up the production of the spare parts Ukraine needs in sufficient quantities and within the required timeframe.
“There is a possibility that by winter we will not be able to obtain all the necessary equipment from European donors,” the MP warned.
At the same time, he noted that Chinese factories are capable of manufacturing and delivering transformers and other equipment to Ukraine in the shortest possible time. However, he said, this option carries political risks.
Against the backdrop of these statements, the article also recalls that Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal had previously reported that the situation in Ukraine’s power grid had stabilised.
Furthermore, Yasno CEO Serhiy Kovalenko had previously predicted that the electricity situation could improve in April following the end of the heating season, as well as thanks to increased generation from hydro and solar power stations.
