Ukraine has received a new batch of missiles for air defence, and some of the systems have already resumed operation.
On the morning of 16 January, Ukraine received a large shipment of missiles for its air defence systems. This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a joint press conference with Czech President Petr Pavel in Kyiv, according to DW.
According to the head of state, even before the morning of 16 January, several air defence systems in Ukraine were effectively idle due to a lack of missiles. After receiving the ammunition, these systems can once again perform combat tasks and protect Ukrainian airspace from air attacks.
The president stressed that each such package of weapons is extremely difficult to obtain and requires constant negotiations with partners in Europe and the United States. He emphasised that the issue is not limited to Patriot systems, as Ukraine has received many different air defence systems during the full-scale war, which require regular and uninterrupted supplies of missiles.
Zelenskyy also noted that, despite significant efforts, securing missiles remains a critical challenge, as the protection of the civilian population, infrastructure and human lives directly depends on their availability.
