A Ukrainian citizen in Switzerland was ordered to return more than 67,000 francs in social assistance
A Ukrainian citizen who arrived in the Swiss canton of Vaud in the summer of 2022 and received social assistance is required to repay 67,336.20 Swiss francs. This was reported by the local publication 24 Heures, writes Blick.
As it turned out during the investigation, the man owned a Porsche car with an estimated residual value of about 37,000 francs. According to the rules of social assistance in Switzerland, a vehicle is considered part of property and is taken into account when determining the right to benefits.
In addition, the recipient of the assistance made numerous trips abroad. According to the court, he visited Austria, France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Belgium and Luxembourg, which was accompanied by significant expenses. Funds were also transferred to his accounts, mainly in euros.
The man explained that he booked airline tickets for friends and carried out financial transactions related to their holidays at their request. The court did not accept these arguments. According to the judges, the applicant failed to prove his financial hardship and has sufficient resources to support himself.
The decision states that the available facts indicate that there are no grounds for receiving social assistance, therefore all funds paid must be returned.
