Up to $8,000 a month: who earns the most in the defence sector
Working in the defence industry
Ukrainian defence companies offer significantly higher salaries than the average on the labour market. They also have sufficient funding to attract experienced professionals and motivate new recruits.

This is discussed in an RBC-Ukraine article entitled ‘Salaries of up to $8,000 and exemption from mobilisation: how Ukraine’s defence industry is tackling staff shortages’.

The average salary for defence industry vacancies on Work.ua is 40,000 hryvnias, whilst the average salary on the labour market is around 28,000 hryvnias.

Thus, salaries in the defence sector are approximately 43% higher than the market average.

This is partly due to the nature of the vacancies, the majority of which are in high-paying professions.

For the most part, employers are looking for experienced specialists, which also inevitably affects the salary on offer.

In particular, a design engineer is offered an average of 40,000 hryvnias, whereas in the defence industry, the same role pays an average of 60,000 hryvnias – 50% more.

At the same time, almost half of the defence companies surveyed by CORE Team reported that they pay salaries at market rates, rather than higher than in other sectors.

Engineers in defence companies, depending on their specialisation, have salary ranges of $2,500–$4,000, but some specialists can earn up to $8,000.
