launch of retraining and reskilling hubs in Ukraine

This was announced by Oksen Lisovyi, Ukraine’s Minister of Education and Science.

A new initiative is being launched in Ukraine to rapidly retrain people to meet the needs of the labour market.

The project is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science, the United Nations Development Programme in Ukraine, and with financial support from the Government of Japan.

The aim is to create retraining and reskilling hubs based in colleges.

According to Education Minister Oksen Lisovyi, the labour market is changing rapidly: some professions are disappearing, whilst new ones are emerging right now. At the same time, thousands of people, including veterans, internally displaced persons and people with disabilities, are looking for opportunities to return to work or start a new career.

Lisovyi noted that the education sector must respond swiftly to such challenges.

In the first phase of the programme, five institutions will be selected. They will be able to retrain approximately 100 people.

Each selected college will receive up to $50,000 in funding.

These funds can be used to upgrade equipment, tools and IT solutions, pay for trainers and materials, as well as cover participants’ basic expenses.

According to the minister, this will enable colleges to launch or strengthen training hubs tailored to the labour market needs of a specific community.

How colleges will be selected

During the selection process, priority will be given to the college’s partnerships with employers and the employment prospects of graduates.

The availability of a safe and inclusive environment, as well as the readiness of the infrastructure and team, will also be important.

The institution’s ability to continue delivering the programme after the support ends will be assessed separately.

Applications will be accepted until 24 May 2026.

As reported by ThePublic, higher education fees in Ukraine have soared by 60%: the most expensive courses have been named.
