A city councillor was found shot dead in his car in Odessa: police have released a preliminary account
Local media report that the person in question is Oleksandr Ivanitsky, a member of the Odessa City Council
On the morning of 20 April, the body of a city councillor was found in a car in the Primorsky district of Odessa. The police have provisionally stated that the man may have committed suicide using a firearm.

This was reported by the Odessa Regional Police.

According to the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region, the incident took place on the morning of 20 April in the Primorskyi district. The man’s body was found in a car on one of the city’s streets. An investigative team is working at the scene, and the full circumstances of the incident are still being established. The police also reported that the issue of legal classification and the entry of details into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations is being resolved.

The police statement does not name the deceased. However, local media report that the man in question is Oleksandr Ivanitskyi, a member of the Odesa City Council.

On the official Odessa City Council website, Ivanitsky is listed as a councillor of the 8th convocation from the “Trust in Deeds” faction and chairman of the standing committee on housing and communal services. The same source states that he was born on 1 October 1975 in Odesa, held two higher education degrees – in civil engineering and law – completed postgraduate studies, was a candidate of technical sciences, held a patent for an invention and had scientific publications.

The official biography on the city council’s website also states that Ivanitsky was a member of the Odessa City Council during the 6th convocation in 2010–2015. On the page for the 7th convocation, he is also listed as a councillor for the “Trust the Deeds” faction and a member of the relevant committee on housing and communal services, ecology and emergencies. Thus, he was indeed a councillor for three consecutive convocations.

In the current composition of the city council, Ivanitsky represented constituency No. 4. On the “Trust the Deeds” faction’s list on the parliamentary portal, he is also listed as one of the political group’s members.

As reported by ThePublic, law enforcement officers in Odesa detained a foreign national suspected of attempting to murder a high-ranking official of the Ukrainian Navy. According to the investigation, he was acting on the orders of Russian special services.
