Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk stated the need to restrict the operation of the Telegram messenger in Ukraine due to threats to national security.

This was reported by LB.ua with reference to a statement by Iryna Vereshchuk.

According to Vereshchuk, the Russian side uses Telegram to influence Ukraine, in particular through anonymous channels. She noted that the special services must take measures to counter such threats.

The deputy head of the President's Office said that the issue of restricting the messenger's work should be resolved within the legal framework. According to her, the Verkhovna Rada already has relevant legislative developments.

She specified that work on relevant initiatives is being carried out, in particular, at the level of the parliamentary committee on freedom of speech.

Earlier, Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko also stated that a significant part of the recruitment of Ukrainians takes place through Telegram. The Verkhovna Rada noted that among the possible measures, the issue of de-anonymising messenger users is being considered.
