District-based air raid alerts introduced in Ukraine
Updated rules for announcing air alerts by region have come into effect in Ukraine. The new approach was implemented by the SES together with the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and regional military administrations. The system is in operation across the country, except for Donetsk and Luhansk regions. This was reported by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko on social media.
District alerts mean that the alarm is sounded only in those communities where a real threat has been detected. This avoids massive work stoppages in regions that are not in immediate danger. This approach has long been demanded by business and local authorities, as each unnecessary alarm created downtime for businesses and critical infrastructure facilities.
At the first stage, the system was tested in 13 regions. After successful results, it was scaled up to the whole country. According to the State Emergency Service, the duration of air alerts has already significantly decreased, especially in the central and frontline regions.
The greatest effect was recorded in the Dnipro region, where some communities received more than 100 additional days without alarms. In Sumy region, the time of air raid alerts was reduced by about 50 days, in Kharkiv region - by more than a month in some communities.
It is also noted that the speed of signal transmission has increased significantly. Previously, information from the Air Force to the SES took several minutes, but now this process takes only 8 to 15 seconds. This increases the efficiency of response and allows for more accurate information to be provided to the public.
