The High Anti-Corruption Court has sentenced a Member of Parliament to two years in prison and banned her from holding public office

On 19 March, a panel of judges at the High Anti-Corruption Court handed down a verdict finding a Member of the Ukrainian Parliament and another individual guilty of committing criminal offences under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court sentenced the Member of the Ukrainian Parliament to a principal sentence of two years’ imprisonment. She was also banned from holding office in state authorities for a period of three years.
The other defendant was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Furthermore, she was barred from holding positions in organisations whose activities involve issuing permits to citizens to leave Ukraine for a period of three years.
Until the verdict becomes final, both individuals are subject to procedural obligations. They must appear whenever summoned by the prosecutor or the court, notify the prosecutor and the court of any change of residence or employment, and surrender their passport for travel abroad, other documents entitling them to leave Ukraine, and their diplomatic passport to the relevant state authorities for safekeeping.
The verdict may be appealed within 30 days of its pronouncement. An appeal may be lodged through the High Anti-Corruption Court to the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court.
